Carter and Associates’ Smart Hort® is agri-enterprise management software which automatically
tracks and reports crop inputs, yields, quality, labour costs, and inventory. It provides small
and medium sized producers with management tools and product traceability functions to address the
unique needs of high value horticultural production. Smart Hort® incorporates bar code technology
to identify people, work stations, activities, quality, products, inventory and shipping details. The
software facilitates production and field record keeping and allows for field block management and
agri-input history record keeping.
Smart Hort® was originally designed as a packing house management software suite for cherry growers. It has since been expanded to address the needs of all fruit, vegetable and greenhouse operators; and is of interest to silvaculture and nursery operations. It is easy to use and offers proven and immediate tangible benefit to its users.
Smart Hort® runs on a personal computer and / or handheld PC devices. The system utilizes wireless bar code scanners programmed to go to either device. For larger operations the system can be used on a local area network. The program is quite sophisticated, but is user-friendly and operators do not need previous computer experience to operate this software. This “gentle learning curve” means you can purchase the software, receive 4 hours of training and get started within a day and learn as you go. Although learning the full functionality of the software takes time, the learn-as-you-go process makes the learning curve less daunting and more attractive to new users.
